This document sets out the terms and conditions on which Cabling For U Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides site surveys, cabling and installation services, and related products to you.

By requesting a quote, booking a site survey, or accepting our installation work, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

1. DEFINITIONS

1.1 In these Terms and Conditions:

  • “Services” means the site surveys, structured cabling, fibre optic installation, CCTV / camera installation, access control, alarm systems, WiFi setup, network installation, home theatre wiring, low-voltage cabling and any related installation, testing, commissioning or consulting services we provide.
  • “Products” means any cable, hardware, cameras, alarms, network equipment, access-control readers, patch panels, racks or other physical items we supply as part of, or in addition to, an installation.
  • “Site Survey” means a no-obligation on-site visit for the purpose of scoping the Services and preparing a Quote. Standard site surveys within our Auckland service region are free of charge.
  • “Install Visit” means an on-site visit made by us for the purpose of carrying out installation, cabling, testing, commissioning or repair work as set out in an accepted Quote.
  • “Quote” means the written proposal we issue setting out the Services, Products, timeline and Fees for a specific job.
  • “Fees” means the total amount payable by you for the Services and Products set out in an accepted Quote, plus any variations agreed in writing.
  • “Working Day” means any day other than a Saturday, Sunday or New Zealand public holiday observed in Auckland.
  • “Working Hours” means 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on any Working Day.
  • “you” or “your” means the customer, their agents and employees, or any person acting on behalf of and with the authority of the customer that requested the Services.

2. SITE SURVEYS & QUOTES

2.1 Where you request a Site Survey within our standard Auckland service region, that Site Survey will be free of charge. Site Surveys outside our standard region may attract a call-out or travel fee, which will be disclosed to you before the visit.

2.2 Following the Site Survey, we will provide you with a Quote setting out the scope, Products, timeline and Fees. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue unless stated otherwise.

2.3 All Quotes are GST inclusive unless expressly stated otherwise.

2.4 A Quote becomes a binding agreement between us when you accept it in writing (email confirmation is sufficient) and pay any required deposit.

2.5 Where the actual scope on the day differs materially from what was quoted (for example: undisclosed asbestos, hidden structural obstructions, additional cable runs requested, upgraded product specifications), we will discuss the variation with you and issue a written variation before proceeding. You must pay for any agreed variations in addition to the original Quote.

3. INSTALL VISITS & SERVICES

3.1 In consideration of the Fees, we will perform the Services in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and the accepted Quote.

3.2 We will use reasonable skill and care in performing the Services and will follow relevant New Zealand standards (including AS/NZS 3080 for structured cabling and NZS 4512 / NZS 4514 where applicable to alarm and life-safety work).

3.3 To enable us to undertake the Services you must:

(a) provide us with all information, drawings, access credentials, network passwords and reasonable assistance we require;

(b) provide safe and unimpeded access to the premises, ceiling spaces, cabinets and points of installation;

(c) ensure someone over 18 years of age is present at the premises during the Install Visit, unless you have expressly authorised us to work unattended;

(d) obtain any body corporate, landlord, tenancy or council consents required for the Services;

(e) advise us of any known hazards (asbestos, live electrical, structural weaknesses, security-restricted areas).

3.4 We will use reasonable endeavours to complete Services within the timeline stated in the Quote, but we do not guarantee completion by a specific date where the delay is caused by matters outside our reasonable control (including matters set out in clause 10.1).

3.5 The duration and scope of each Install Visit will be agreed with you. If the Services cannot be completed within that visit, we will discuss the options available, which may include extending the visit, arranging a further Install Visit, or scoping a variation.

3.6 We will use reasonable endeavours to minimise disruption to your premises and to leave the site tidy on completion.

4. PRODUCT OWNERSHIP AND RISK

4.1 Ownership of Products supplied by us remains with us until payment is made in full from cleared funds.

4.2 We supply Products on the condition that we retain a purchase money security interest (as defined by the Personal Property Securities Act 1999) in those Products.

4.3 If you fail to make full payment for the Products, we may re-possess, re-sell or retain the Products and may for that purpose enter the premises on which the Products are situated at any reasonable time and without further notice, without being liable to you or any other person.

4.4 Risk of loss or damage to Products passes to you on installation or delivery to your premises, whichever occurs first.

4.5 All installed cabling, fixtures, containment, back-boxes, patch panels, cabinets, cameras, readers and similar items become part of the premises on installation and are subject to the payment and warranty terms of these Terms and Conditions.

5. PAYMENT

5.1 Unless otherwise agreed in the Quote, payment terms are:

(a) Deposits: For jobs over $2,000 (GST inclusive), a 30% deposit is payable on acceptance of the Quote to secure the booking and order-in Products.

(b) Final payment: The balance is payable on completion of the Services and issue of our invoice (“Due Date”), unless a staged-payment schedule is set out in the Quote.

(c) Small jobs: For jobs under $2,000, full payment is due on the Due Date without deposit.

5.2 Payment may be made by internet banking, EFTPOS, credit card (surcharge may apply) or approved account (for pre-approved business customers).

5.3 If you do not pay by the Due Date, we may:

(a) charge interest at 15% per annum, calculated daily from the Due Date until payment is received in full;

(b) recover any additional administration, legal and debt collection costs reasonably incurred; and

(c) suspend any further Services or ongoing warranty response until the default is remedied.

5.4 Where we have supplied Products, we may retain a security interest in the Products as set out in clause 4 until payment is received in full.

6. WARRANTY

6.1 Workmanship Warranty. We warrant our workmanship on structured cabling, fibre optic, low-voltage, CCTV, access control, alarm and network installations for three (3) years from the date of installation, subject to the exclusions in clause 6.4.

6.2 Coaxial / TV / MATV Exception. Coaxial cabling, MATV, TV aerial and satellite installations carry a twelve (12) month workmanship warranty. This exception applies because coaxial cable characteristics degrade at a different rate to structured cabling and are more sensitive to environmental exposure.

6.3 Manufacturer Warranties. Products supplied by us are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty for the period stated by that manufacturer. Manufacturer warranties are additional to, not in place of, your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. We will assist you to make warranty claims against the manufacturer where practicable.

6.4 Warranty Exclusions. Our workmanship warranty does not cover:

(a) damage caused by tampering, unauthorised modification, subsequent building work by third parties, pest damage or accidental damage;

(b) fair wear and tear;

(c) failure caused by power surges, lightning strikes, flood or other events outside our reasonable control;

(d) equipment supplied by you or by third parties;

(e) issues arising from your failure to maintain, patch or update firmware / software on installed equipment;

(f) damage caused by internet service provider or telco infrastructure changes.

6.5 Remedy. If a fault covered by our warranty arises, our sole liability (subject to the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993) is to re-perform the Services or repair / replace the affected installation, at our option, at no cost to you.

6.6 Your Rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986, where those Acts apply.

6.7 Business Customers. If the Services or Products are supplied for business purposes, the parties agree that the guarantees in the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 do not apply to the extent permitted by that Act.

6.8 Site Access for Warranty Response. You must provide us reasonable access to the premises to assess and remedy any warranty claim.

7. LIABILITY

7.1 The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 and any other statutes may apply warranties, conditions or obligations that cannot be excluded or modified by contract. Where those apply, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

7.2 Except as required by clause 7.1, we will not be liable to you (whether in contract, tort including negligence, or otherwise) for:

(a) loss of profits, revenue, savings, goodwill or business opportunity;

(b) loss or corruption of data;

(c) any indirect, special or consequential loss.

7.3 To the extent allowed by law, our total liability under or in connection with any Services or Products supplied by us to you is limited to the Fees paid by you for those specific Services or Products.

7.4 We carry $20 million Public Liability insurance and hold Site Safe accreditation. Details of our insurances can be provided on request.

8. CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVACY

8.1 We will treat as confidential all information we obtain from you in providing the Services and will not use it for any purpose other than providing and administering the Services and complying with our legal obligations.

8.2 You authorise us to collect, retain and use personal information about you for the purposes of scoping and delivering the Services, invoicing, meeting our legal obligations to you, communicating with you about your job, and (where you have opted in) marketing.

8.3 For our full privacy practices, see our Privacy Policy at cablingforu.co.nz/privacy-policy/.

8.4 Where we install cameras, access control, alarms or other systems that record personal information about your staff, customers or visitors, you are responsible for meeting your obligations as a data controller under the Privacy Act 2020 (including signage, notification and secure storage of recordings). We can provide guidance on Privacy Act compliance for CCTV installations on request; guidance is not legal advice.

9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & INSTALLATION PHOTOS

9.1 You grant us a non-exclusive licence to photograph our own installation work at your premises (equipment racks, cable pathways, containment, finished outlets) for portfolio, case study and marketing purposes, provided we do not include:

(a) identifiable images of your staff, customers or visitors without their consent;

(b) confidential documents visible in the frame;

(c) security-sensitive information (server rack labels, network diagrams, camera coverage maps, alarm codes).

9.2 If you do not wish us to photograph our work at your premises, please advise us in writing before the Install Visit.

9.3 We retain intellectual property in our proprietary designs, layouts, quotation methodology and installation methods.

10. GENERAL

10.1 Force Majeure. We will not be liable for any breach, delay or failure to perform our obligations caused by matters outside our reasonable control, including inability to obtain supplies, war, civil disruption, terrorism, strike, pandemic, extreme weather events, earthquake or other act of God, or failure by our suppliers to supply on time.

10.2 These Terms and Conditions are governed by New Zealand law. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

10.3 These Terms and Conditions are binding on your successors, assignees and personal representatives.

10.4 If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is held to be invalid, void or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.

10.5 No failure or delay by us in exercising any right under these Terms and Conditions operates as a waiver of that right.

10.6 The current Terms and Conditions in force at any time are published at cablingforu.co.nz/terms-and-conditions/. We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The version in force at the date you accept a Quote is the version that applies to that job.

11. CANCELLATION & RESCHEDULING

11.1 You may cancel or reschedule an Install Visit by giving us at least one (1) Working Day’s notice by phone or email. Cancellations with less than one Working Day’s notice may attract a call-out fee equal to our reasonable costs (typically $150 GST inclusive) to compensate for the technician’s allocated time and any Products already prepared.

11.2 No-show fees apply where our technician arrives at the premises for a scheduled Install Visit and cannot access the site or perform the Services through no fault of ours.

11.3 We may reschedule an Install Visit where circumstances outside our reasonable control (weather, illness, supplier delay) prevent us from attending as booked. We will give you as much notice as reasonably possible and arrange an alternative time.

11.4 Deposits paid to secure a booking and order-in Products are non-refundable once we have ordered the Products, except where cancellation is our fault or the Consumer Guarantees Act requires otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our Auckland cabling services, pricing and process. Can't find what you're after? Call us on 0800 222 546.

How much does network cabling cost?

Pricing depends on the number of data points, cable type (Cat6 / Cat6a / fibre) and building complexity. We provide free site surveys and upfront fixed-price quotes — no hidden costs. Most extra Cat6 outlets start from $120 +GST. Call 0800 222 546 to book yours.

Do you charge for site surveys and quotes?

No — site surveys and quotes are free. Book online or call 0800 222 546 and one of our team will come to you, assess the job, and give you a clear fixed price before any work begins.

How long does a typical install take?

A standard residential or small-office install is usually completed in a single day — often same-day. Larger commercial or enterprise projects are planned with a clear timeline given before work begins, so you always know what to expect.

Are your technicians certified and licensed?

Yes. All installs are completed to TIA/EIA and AS/NZS 3080 standards, and any associated electrical work is carried out by licensed electricians. We are fully insured with $5M public liability cover.

What areas of Auckland do you service?

We service all of Auckland — Central, North Shore, West, East and South Auckland — plus the North including Orewa, Silverdale, Warkworth, Snells Beach and Mangawhai.

Do you provide a warranty on your work?

Yes. Every cabling install is tested, documented and backed by our 12-month workmanship warranty. If anything isn't right after your install, we'll come back and fix it.

Cat6 vs Cat6a — which cable should I choose?

For most homes and small offices, Cat6 is more than enough — it handles gigabit speeds easily and is more affordable. Cat6a suits businesses running heavy data, future-proofing for 10-gigabit networks, or longer cable runs. We'll recommend the right cable during your free site survey.

How much does CCTV installation cost in Auckland?

CCTV pricing depends on the number of cameras, indoor vs outdoor placement, recording method (NVR vs cloud) and cabling required. Most residential systems are a one-day install; commercial sites are quoted after a survey. Book a free survey on 0800 222 546.

Can you install fibre optic cabling for my business?

Yes — we install indoor and outdoor fibre including OS2 single-mode and OM3/OM4 multi-mode for backbone runs, server rooms and inter-building links across Auckland. All terminations are tested and certified to AS/NZS standards.

Do you provide after-hours or emergency callouts?

Yes. Real people answer Mon–Sun, and we offer emergency callouts for downed networks, broken cabling, camera failures and business-critical outages. Call 0800 222 546 anytime.

Can you add data points to an existing home or office?

Absolutely — adding data points to existing buildings is one of our most common jobs. We minimise wall damage, label every cable and tidy patch panels so future changes are easy. Most retrofits are completed in a single visit.
