The Te Atatu story

The Ring never saw him

Lisa had a Ring doorbell and thought she was covered. In March, a guy came over the side fence at 2pm on a Wednesday, walked straight past the Ring, tried the laundry slider, opened the garage from inside, and was gone in seven minutes. The only footage: a courier at 11am. Her doorbell watched 130 degrees of the front porch — the intruder used the other 230 degrees of her property.

The system we installed three weeks later cost $2,150 fitted: four Hikvision cameras on the side gate, back door, garage and driveway, 30 days of recording, motion-triggered cloud backup and smartphone alerts. The Ring stayed where it was — perfect for parcels. The CCTV is what protects the house.

  • Full-property coverage — side gate, back door, garage, driveway. Not just the porch.
  • 30-day recording — most break-ins are discovered 5–10 days later.
  • Evidence-grade footage — AS/NZS-compliant, accepted by Police and insurers.
  • Tuned alerts — motion zones set with you on install day, not 40 pings a day.

How it works

Free site walk to test alert in five steps

No phone estimates — anyone who quotes cameras without walking the property is guessing where the entry points are.

01

Site walk

We walk the property with you — entry points, approaches, blind spots — and plan camera placement.

02

Fixed quote in 24h

Itemised in writing: camera models, storage, cloud backup and warranty terms. No hidden line items.

03

Install & cable

Cameras mounted, AS/NZS 3080 cabling in conduit, NVR racked — same-day on most 4-camera kits.

04

Tune with you

Motion zones set to ignore cars and trees, night vision checked, app configured on your phone.

05

Test alert

We don't consider it installed until you've received a test alert — then the 3-year warranty, in writing.

Before anyone touches your walls

The checks that separate pros from cowboys

We built these checks after replacing too many systems that worked at install — then failed in year two, or lost the footage that mattered.

The evidence trap

30 days of recording — or it's designed to lose evidence

Most break-ins are discovered 5–10 days later, when something turns up missing. A 7–14 day consumer cloud plan has often already overwritten the footage. We spec 30+ days of local recording plus motion-triggered cloud backup — so flagged events survive even if the recorder itself is stolen.

  • 30+ days local on the NVR
  • Motion events backed up to cloud
  • Keeps recording if internet drops
  • AS/NZS-compliant, Police-accepted

Set up with you, not a manual

The app is installed when your phone gets the alert

If the installer leaves you a manual and a YouTube link, the system isn't really installed. We configure the app on your phone before we leave, tune motion zones with you so cars and trees don't trigger it, and send a test alert — that's our definition of done.

  • App configured on install day
  • Motion zones tuned — not 40 pings/day
  • People vs cars vs animals on Pro AI
  • Test alert received before we leave

Privacy Act 2020

Cameras that film the street have legal obligations

If any camera captures the street or a neighbour's property, you have obligations under the Privacy Act 2020 — one of the questions most cowboy installers can't answer. We position cameras to minimise overreach and walk you through the signage and notice requirements during the site visit.

  • Placement minimises street capture
  • Signage requirements explained
  • Neighbour-notice guidance
  • Footage stays admissible as evidence

Year-two failures

Most camera failures are cable failures

Cameras rarely die — the bargain-bin cable behind them does. We run the same AS/NZS 3080-certified cabling we use for data installs, in conduit, so adding cameras later is straightforward and the system that works on install day still works in year five.

  • AS/NZS 3080 cabling, in conduit
  • NVR sized for 8+ channels — add later
  • UPS keeps recording through outages
  • 3-yr workmanship + 2-yr hardware warranty

FAQs

CCTV questions, answered

Can't find what you're after? Call us on 0800 222 546 — real people, Mon–Sun.

What does a typical Auckland CCTV install cost in 2026?
Entry 4-camera kits start from $450. A 3-camera Starter kit costs $1,290–$1,490 supplied and fitted, a 4-camera Standard install lands around $2,150–$2,500, and a 6–8 camera Pro setup with 4K Starlight cameras, UPS and larger storage runs $3,450–$4,800. Same-day install pricing sits at the higher end of each tier.
Hikvision vs Dahua — which should I pick?
Hikvision is the safer pick for most Auckland homes: cleaner app, easier setup, slightly better daytime image. Dahua wins for very dark approaches — long driveways and rural sections — where its low-light sensors shine. We install both and recommend per-camera at the site walk.
Is 4K really better than 1080p?
Only on the cameras that need it — usually the driveway and front gate, where 4K lets you digitally zoom on number plates and faces after the event. Coverage cameras (side gate, back yard) are fine at 1080p and use 4× less storage. Most of our 4-camera installs mix the two.
Will my Ring doorbell still work alongside proper CCTV?
Yes — we leave it exactly where it is. Ring is great for parcels and front-door visitors. The CCTV covers the 230 degrees of your property the Ring doesn't see. They run independently and complement each other.
Do I need to comply with NZ privacy laws?
Yes — if any camera captures the street or a neighbour's property, you have obligations under the Privacy Act 2020. We position cameras to minimise this and walk you through signage and notice requirements during the site visit. It's one of the questions most cowboy installers can't answer.
Will the cameras work if power or internet drops?
Yes — we default to a small UPS on the recorder so it rides through short outages, and the NVR writes to its own drive even with the internet down. You lose smartphone alerts during the outage, but every camera keeps recording locally.
Can I add cameras later?
Yes — the NVRs we install handle 8 channels minimum, and cabling is laid in conduit so additional runs are straightforward. Many customers start with 4 cameras and add 2–4 more in year two as they spot coverage gaps.
How long does a same-day install take?
A 4-camera install with cabling already in place takes 4–6 hours; a fresh install with full cable runs is typically a full day. App setup is included before we leave — we don't consider the system installed until you've received a test alert on your phone.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our Auckland cabling services, pricing and process. Can't find what you're after? Call us on 0800 222 546.

How much does network cabling cost?

Pricing depends on the number of data points, cable type (Cat6 / Cat6a / fibre) and building complexity. We provide free site surveys and upfront fixed-price quotes — no hidden costs. Most extra Cat6 outlets start from $120 +GST. Call 0800 222 546 to book yours.

Do you charge for site surveys and quotes?

No — site surveys and quotes are free. Book online or call 0800 222 546 and one of our team will come to you, assess the job, and give you a clear fixed price before any work begins.

How long does a typical install take?

A standard residential or small-office install is usually completed in a single day — often same-day. Larger commercial or enterprise projects are planned with a clear timeline given before work begins, so you always know what to expect.

Are your technicians certified and licensed?

Yes. All installs are completed to TIA/EIA and AS/NZS 3080 standards, and any associated electrical work is carried out by licensed electricians. We are fully insured with $5M public liability cover.

What areas of Auckland do you service?

We service all of Auckland — Central, North Shore, West, East and South Auckland — plus the North including Orewa, Silverdale, Warkworth, Snells Beach and Mangawhai.

Do you provide a warranty on your work?

Yes. Every cabling install is tested, documented and backed by our 3-year workmanship warranty. If anything isn't right after your install, we'll come back and fix it.

Cat6 vs Cat6a — which cable should I choose?

For most homes and small offices, Cat6 is more than enough — it handles gigabit speeds easily and is more affordable. Cat6a suits businesses running heavy data, future-proofing for 10-gigabit networks, or longer cable runs. We'll recommend the right cable during your free site survey.

How much does CCTV installation cost in Auckland?

CCTV pricing depends on the number of cameras, indoor vs outdoor placement, recording method (NVR vs cloud) and cabling required. Most residential installs sit in the $1,500–$3,500 range, with commercial systems quoted on-site. Book a free survey on 0800 222 546.

Can you install fibre optic cabling for my business?

Yes — we install indoor and outdoor fibre including OS2 single-mode and OM3/OM4 multi-mode for backbone runs, server rooms and inter-building links across Auckland. All terminations are tested and certified to AS/NZS standards.

Do you provide after-hours or emergency callouts?

Yes. Real people answer Mon–Sun, and we offer emergency callouts for downed networks, broken cabling, camera failures and business-critical outages. Call 0800 222 546 anytime.

Can you add data points to an existing home or office?

Absolutely — adding data points to existing buildings is one of our most common jobs. We minimise wall damage, label every cable and tidy patch panels so future changes are easy. Most retrofits are completed in a single visit.
