Sick of smart-home tech that half-works? Auckland's smart home wiring — pre-wire or retrofit.
Your smart lights drop out. Your camera reboots at 3am. Your Sonos hunts for WiFi. That's not the tech — it's the wiring behind it. We pre-wire during your build (best) or retrofit into your existing home (also works) with a Cat6 backbone to every smart device. Free on-site survey + fixed-price quote in 24 hours. 3-year workmanship warranty.

How is smart home wiring priced in Auckland?
Every home is different — retrofit vs pre-wire, room count, ceiling access, ecosystem chosen (HomeKit / Google / Matter) — so smart-home wiring isn't a tier-price job. We don't publish "from $X" on this page because we've been burned by anchor-quoting jobs we haven't seen. Instead: free on-site survey, we walk the house with you, and a fixed-price written quote lands in your inbox within 24 hours. No obligation to proceed.

A modern Auckland home runs 40+ connected endpoints — cameras, doorbell, speakers, TVs, hubs, lights, sensors, thermostats, robot vacuum, plus every phone and laptop in the house. They all compete for the same crowded 2.4GHz airspace, and the ones that matter most for reliability are usually the ones fighting hardest for it.
The fix isn't a bigger router or another mesh node. It's a wired Cat6 backbone: run ethernet to the devices and access points that need to stay up, and leave WiFi to do what it's good at — phones, laptops, and things that move. Everything downstream gets more stable, faster, and easier to fault-find.
The 3am camera reboot
PoE cameras on Cat6 don't drop. WiFi ones do.
The Sonos "no music room" error
Wired Sonos syncs, WiFi Sonos hunts.
Smart lights that "forget" their scenes
Zigbee/Matter hubs need stable ethernet backhaul.
Mesh WiFi slower than the ISP router
Wireless-backhaul mesh halves bandwidth per hop.
Real Auckland smart-home installs
Every install includes a cable map + label directory so future changes are trivial. Photos from recent Auckland jobs.
What's in a smart home wiring install
Cat6 / Cat6A backbone
Ethernet cable to every smart device that matters — cameras, hubs, TVs, mesh AP locations, PoE devices. TIA/EIA + AS/NZS 3080 certified. Fluke-tested on completion.
Smart wiring frame
Central patch panel in a hallway cupboard or garage where all smart-home cabling terminates. Neat, labelled, expandable.
Smart lighting pre-wire
Neutral wires to every switch (needed for smart switches like Aqara / Shelly), extra runs to zones where scenes or dimming might go in later.
CCTV cabling
PoE Cat6 runs to camera positions — eaves, door, gate, driveway — with drip loops and weatherproof terminations.
WiFi mesh backhaul
Ethernet drops to 2–4 mesh AP positions chosen for coverage (not "where the router happens to sit").
Home theatre AV runs
HDMI, ethernet, and audio pulls to media rooms, ceiling speakers, projector locations. All conduited for future upgrades.

Common Auckland smart-home jobs
Every home's different, but most fall into one of these six patterns.
Coordinated pre-wire during construction
We come in after framing and before gib, work off your plans, and run every cable while the walls are open. One coordination call with your builder or PM sets the sequence so nobody's waiting on anybody.
Cable through ceiling void, frame in cupboard
Older Auckland homes usually have a generous ceiling void and accessible subfloor — that's how we get Cat6 to every room without opening walls. The frame goes in a hallway cupboard, and we make good everything we touch.
Riser + upstairs zone
A single cable riser from the frame to an upstairs zone means the second floor gets its own wired mesh AP and camera drops — instead of leaning on a wireless hop from downstairs that halves your speed.
Buried Cat6 + ethernet backhaul
Direct-burial Cat6 in conduit from the house to the sleep-out, terminated both ends. The flat gets its own AP on wired backhaul, so it's not fighting the main house for WiFi across a garden.
Multi-zone HomeKit + Ubiquiti + CCTV
Every zone wired for lighting control, audio, cameras and APs, with a properly built frame, labelled patch panel and documented handover — the kind of install that survives changing installers and owners.
Retrofit while the walls are open
The cheapest smart-home wiring you'll ever buy is the wiring done while the gib is already off. If you're renovating, this is the window — and it closes the day the plasterer arrives.
