Data Cable Repair Auckland — Same-Day Fix From $280
Broken data cable? Fluke-tested and certified by Auckland’s repair specialists. Most jobs sorted same-day, with a 3-year workmanship warranty on every fix.
When data cabling fails — and how we fix it
If you’re reading this, something on your network has stopped working: a port that’s gone dead, a slow connection that used to be fast, a workstation that can’t see the network. Here’s what we see most often, and what the fix looks like.
Scenario 1 — The “one port stopped working”
You sit down, plug in your laptop, nothing. The other ports work fine. Most common cause: the RJ45 termination has worked loose at the wall plate, or a connector pin has corroded.
Fix: Re-terminate the wall plate, test to TIA-568, certify with Fluke. ~45 minutes on-site. From $280.
Scenario 2 — The “everything’s slow”
Speeds that used to be gigabit are now crawling. Wireless still works but anything wired through that port is unusable. Usually a cable damaged behind a wall — pinched by a renovation, chewed by rodents, or stressed by being run tight around a corner.
Fix: Identify the break with a TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer), then either splice with an inline coupler (cheaper, faster) or pull a fresh run. From $280 for splice, $480–$680 for full re-run.
Scenario 3 — The “after the electrician”
An electrician’s done some work — added a power point, replaced a switchboard — and now data ports near the work area don’t work. Almost always: the data cable was nicked or pinched during the electrical install.
Fix: Trace the damaged section, splice or re-run as required. Document the damage with photos for your insurer if the original installer needs to come back. From $280.

Should you repair, or replace the run entirely?
It’s the most common question we get when a cable’s failed. Here’s the rule of thumb:
Repair makes sense when:
- The damage is in an accessible spot (no wall opening required)
- The cable is Cat6 or Cat6A and meets current standards
- It’s a single isolated fault (not “lots of issues across the building”)
- You’re budget-conscious and the repair holds Fluke certification
Replace makes sense when:
- The cable is Cat5e and you’re noticing speed issues — Cat6/6A is now standard
- The damage is behind a wall and inaccessible without opening up
- You have multiple intermittent issues — likely a wider cable-fatigue problem
- The original install pre-dates 2015 — likely time for a refresh anyway
Auckland data cable repair FAQ
How quickly can you get to me?
Call before 10am on a business day, we’ll usually have a technician on-site that afternoon. Calls between 10am–3pm are typically same-day or next-morning. After 3pm bookings are next-business-day unless it’s a critical fault (server room down, retail POS offline) — in which case our after-hours rate ($420 callout) applies.
Do you certify the repair?
Yes — every repair includes Fluke-tested certification to TIA-568. You get a printed test report showing the port passes Cat6 (or Cat6A) at the cable’s full rated length. If we can’t certify it, we don’t charge for the repair — we’ll quote a re-run instead.
What if the fault keeps coming back?
Our 3-year workmanship warranty covers the repair itself. If the same port fails again within 3 years from a workmanship issue, we’ll fix it at no charge. If a different cable in your building fails (or someone damages our repair after we leave), that’s a new callout.
Can you work after hours so we don’t have downtime?
Yes. We do a lot of after-hours and weekend work for offices, medical clinics, and retail sites that can’t have downtime during business hours. After-hours rate is $420 callout vs $280 business-hours — worth it when the cost of downtime is higher than the rate difference.
Do you do cable repair for residential as well as commercial?
Yes — Auckland homes, apartments, offices, retail, warehouses, clinics. Residential repairs are typically simpler (single port at a wall plate) and finish faster. Commercial repairs may involve coordinating around patch panels, comms cabinets, or live services, but the pricing structure is the same.
