Project background
Our customer, the owners of a two-storey Auckland home, had the usual two-storey problem: the router sat on one floor, and the rooms that needed Wi-Fi most were on the other. Video calls and streaming dropped out, and the lounge TV was the worst of it.
Their first question was the right one: can you just run a cable between the floors? Sometimes we can, through a wardrobe, a service riser or an external wall. We walked the house looking for that route.

Challenges
No practical route between the floors
This home had no riser, no accessible void and no external run that would stay out of sight. Getting one cable upstairs meant opening up walls and ceilings on both floors, then having them patched and painted. For a single data point, that is a lot of cost and disruption, and we said so.
A fix that had to work the same day
The owners wanted the problem solved in one visit, not a renovation project. Whatever we recommended had to be installed, tested and working before we left.
Getting mesh right, not just plugged in
Mesh kits are easy to buy and easy to install badly. The second node ends up in the dead spot itself, where it cannot hear the first node, and the system is slower than the Wi-Fi it replaced. Placement is the job.

Made my morning. Fixed all the problems we had with internet on a Sunday, just so I could watch the Rugby League World Cup. Amazing service.
How Cabling For U delivered
Survey & Design
Checked the realistic cable routes first and ruled them out on cost and disruption. Recommended a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system as the right tool for this house, and explained the trade-off plainly: wireless mesh is a very good fix here, and a cable between the floors remains the better long-term option if the ceilings are ever opened for other work.
Wireless & Network
Set up the main mesh unit beside the router, paired the second unit and placed it on the other floor at the point where it holds a strong link back to the first unit, rather than in the far corner where the signal had been weakest. Both units share one Wi-Fi name, so phones, laptops and the TV move between them on their own.
Handover
Moved the household devices onto the new network, tested the lounge TV streaming live sport, and showed the owners what the unit lights mean and where the second node must stay for the link to hold. Noted the future cable route for them, so if a ceiling is ever opened, the cable goes in then.
Project results
Cabling For U fixed the upstairs Wi-Fi in one visit without opening a single wall. The lounge TV went from the worst connection in the house to streaming reliably, and the rest of the home sits on the same mesh network.
The owners kept their existing router, avoided a patch-and-paint job for one cable, and have a written note of the cable route to use if they ever renovate.

Homeowner, two-storey home, Auckland. Google review, the same day.
In a two-storey home with no cable route, a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system placed for the link, not the dead spot, fixes upstairs Wi-Fi in one visit. Run the cable later, when a ceiling is open anyway.
