Auckland data recovery · Same day where possible

Data recovery in Auckland — when you can't afford to lose it.

The moment you realise the photos might be gone is the worst part. We can usually get them back — home or business, we come to you. Fixed quote in 24 hours, no fix no fee.

  • Same-day emergency
  • No fix no fee

Start here

First, breathe. Most data isn't as gone as it looks.

Hard drives, phones and SD cards fail — mechanical wear, dropped devices, spilled coffee, corrupted files, an accidental delete. Almost all of it is recoverable, and the earlier you get to us, the better the odds.

Three things to do right now:

  • 01
Keep the device off. Every restart risks overwriting what's still there.
  • 02
Don't try to fix it with YouTube tutorials. That's where recoverable becomes unrecoverable.
  • 03
Give us a call. Talking costs nothing.

FAQ

Real questions we get every week

Can you actually recover data from a dead hard drive?

Most of the time, yes. Logical failures — deleted files, corrupted partitions, formatted drives — are usually recoverable in our workshop. Physical head crashes and severely water-damaged drives go to our clean-room partner. We'll tell you honestly which one you've got after diagnostic.

How much does data recovery cost in Auckland?

Depends on the type of failure. Logical recovery is at the low end; physical drive damage needing clean-room work is more. We give you a fixed written quote after the free diagnostic, and if we can't recover it, no fee.

Is it worth paying for data recovery?

If the files are personal (family photos, tax records, contacts) or business-critical (client files, MYOB, contracts), yes — the cost is almost always less than the value of what you'd lose. If it's stuff you can re-download or restore from a backup, we'll be honest and tell you it's not worth it. That's why we quote before we start — you decide once you know the number.

Can I recover data for free?

Sometimes. For simple deleted files on a healthy drive, free tools like Recuva or PhotoRec can work — we'll tell you honestly if that's your situation. But if the drive is failing, clicking, water-damaged, or the files are already gone from the Recycle Bin, DIY tools usually make it worse. That's when it's time to stop and call.

How long does it take?

Most jobs 24–72 hours. Emergency same-day service available for business-critical cases — say the word when you book.

Do you come to me or do I bring it in?

Both — your choice. We'll collect from your Auckland home or business, or you can drop off. Whichever is easier for you.

What if you can't recover the data?

No fee. We'll tell you straight and, if the data is worth the escalation, refer you to a clean-room specialist we trust. No pretending, no runaround.

Will you also set up backup so this doesn't happen again?

Yes — that's our angle. We recover AND set up automatic backup (cloud + local, whichever fits your setup) so the next photo you take isn't the next crisis.

No charge to talk

What we can recover

We recover data from every consumer and business storage media used in Auckland — mechanical failures, logical failures, and physical damage.

Hard drive recovery

Failed 2.5" and 3.5" SATA hard drives from any manufacturer — Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba, Hitachi. Mechanical failures (head crash, motor failure, PCB damage) recovered in our controlled workshop environment. Logical failures (deleted partitions, corrupted file systems, accidental format) recovered on the software side.

SSD recovery

Solid-state drive recovery is harder than HDD — NAND wear-levelling and encryption make traditional recovery impossible without controller-level tools. We handle both consumer SSDs (Samsung, Crucial, WD Blue) and enterprise NVMe drives. Sudden failure without warning is common — SSDs die faster than they degrade.

RAID array recovery

RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 array recovery — dead controllers, multiple drive failures, degraded rebuilds gone wrong. We handle Dell PERC, HP Smart Array, LSI/Broadcom, Adaptec, and software RAID (mdadm, Windows Storage Spaces). Never rebuild a degraded array before calling us — you can lose everything.

NAS recovery (Synology, QNAP, WD MyCloud, Buffalo)

NAS unit dead, drives locked to the enclosure, RAID rebuild failed, or the whole NAS is showing red lights. We work with all major NAS platforms — Synology DSM (btrfs and ext4), QNAP QTS, WD MyCloud, Buffalo, Netgear ReadyNAS. Pull the drives, image them, reconstruct the volume outside the enclosure.

External drive recovery

WD Elements, Seagate Backup Plus, LaCie Rugged — external drive dropped, water damage, USB port failed, or Windows saying "you need to format the disk." Most external drive issues are either the USB bridge board failing (drive inside is fine) or file-system corruption from an unsafe eject.

USB flash drive + SD card recovery

Snapped USB stick, unreadable SD card, camera card with photos you need back. Recoveries include physical repair (re-soldering NAND chips to a controller board where needed) and logical recovery from formatted or corrupted cards.

Water, fire, and physical damage

Flood-damaged drives, drives from house fires, drives dropped or crushed. Immediate action if wet: DO NOT dry it or power it on. Bag it wet and get it to us within 24 hours. Powering on a water-damaged drive kills your chances.

Mac drives + iPhone / Android

APFS and HFS+ Mac drive recovery (Fusion Drive support). iPhone data recovery (photos, messages, contacts) from water-damaged or non-booting iPhones. Android internal storage recovery from failed devices.

Warning signs — what your drive is telling you

If any of these are happening, stop using the drive and call us. Every extra hour of running a failing drive costs recoverability.

  • Clicking noise — head-actuator failure. The read/write heads are hitting the platters. Stop immediately.
  • Grinding or scraping — head crash. Every second running scratches the magnetic surface further.
  • Beeping on startup — motor stuck. Common on 2.5" drives dropped while spinning.
  • Not detected in BIOS — could be PCB, motor, or firmware. Not always the drive itself.
  • Blue screen / boot loop — usually file-system corruption. Recoverable in most cases.
  • "You need to format this disk" — partition table damage. Drive is fine; data structures are corrupted. Do not format.
  • SMART warnings in Windows — drive is dying. Get data off NOW, do not wait for full failure.
  • Freezing during read/write — bad sectors accumulating. Image before it gets worse.

Our recovery process

  1. Free diagnostic — drop off or courier your drive to us. We assess failure type and recoverability in 24-48 hours. No charge for diagnostic.
  2. Upfront fixed quote — we tell you what is recoverable, what it will cost, and how long. You decide before we start any recovery work.
  3. Recovery attempt — physical failures worked on in our controlled workshop; logical failures worked on with imaging + reconstruction tools.
  4. Data verification — we send you a file listing before final payment. You confirm the critical files are there.
  5. Delivery — recovered data on new USB drive, external HDD, or cloud transfer (your choice).

Auckland-wide service

Drop-off: our Morningside workshop, weekdays 9am-5pm. Courier: we accept incoming couriers from all of Auckland + rural NZ (send wrapped in bubble wrap in a padded box). On-site collection: available for RAID/NAS jobs where the array is too complex to ship (extra 180 NZD travel fee within Auckland metro).

Turnaround times: logical recoveries typically 2-5 working days. Physical HDD recoveries 5-10 working days. RAID reconstruction 5-14 working days. Emergency 24-48 hour turnaround available at 40% surcharge.

Data recovery pricing — Auckland typical bands

Every recovery is quoted upfront after free diagnostic. Actual quote depends on failure type, drive condition, and data urgency. These are typical bands only.

  • Simple logical recovery (deleted files, formatted drive, corrupted partition) — 250 to 450 NZD
  • Failed hard drive — logical failure (bad sectors, file system corruption) — 400 to 700 NZD
  • Failed hard drive — physical failure (mechanical, PCB, head crash) — 600 to 1,500 NZD
  • SSD recovery (NAND failure, controller failure) — 700 to 1,800 NZD
  • RAID array recovery (2-drive, 4-drive, 6-drive) — 1,500 to 4,500+ NZD
  • NAS unit recovery (Synology, QNAP, WD MyCloud) — 900 to 2,800 NZD
  • Emergency 24-48 hour turnaround — add 40% to standard price
  • Free diagnostic — every job. No charge if recovery is not attempted.

Data recovery FAQ

How much does data recovery cost in Auckland?

Simple logical recoveries start around 250 NZD. Physical hard drive failures typically 600-1,500 NZD. RAID arrays 1,500-4,500+ NZD. Every quote is fixed upfront after our free diagnostic. No surprises.

Can you recover from a hard drive that is clicking?

Yes — clicking indicates head or motor failure. Stop using the drive immediately (every read attempt worsens it) and get it to us. Recovery success rate on clicking drives is around 90% if you stop using them quickly.

How long does data recovery take?

Logical recoveries: 2-5 working days. Physical HDD recoveries: 5-10 days. RAID reconstruction: 5-14 days depending on array complexity. Emergency 24-48 hour turnaround available with 40% surcharge.

Do you charge if you cannot recover the data?

Free diagnostic on every job. If we quote for recovery and cannot recover anything usable, you do not pay the recovery fee — only shipping/handling if applicable. We tell you upfront how likely recovery is before we start any billable work.

Can you recover from a failed SSD?

Yes — SSD recovery is harder than HDD (NAND wear-levelling, controller encryption) but recoverable in most cases. We handle sudden dead SSDs, unreadable drives, and controller failures.

Our RAID array failed — can you help?

Yes. Do NOT rebuild a degraded array before calling us — a failed rebuild often destroys any remaining recoverability. Pull the drives, label their positions, and get them to us. We handle RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 across Dell PERC, HP Smart Array, LSI/Broadcom, Adaptec, mdadm, and Windows Storage Spaces.

My drive got wet — what do I do?

Do NOT dry it. Do NOT power it on. Bag it wet (sealed plastic bag) and get it to us within 24 hours. Drying a wet drive causes corrosion; powering a wet drive causes shorts that permanently destroy the platters.

Do you recover from Mac drives + Fusion Drives?

Yes — APFS, HFS+, and Fusion Drive recovery. Fusion Drive recoveries are more complex (SSD+HDD combined logical volume) but standard workflow for us.

Can you recover iPhone or Android data?

Yes — non-booting iPhones (photos, messages, contacts), water-damaged iPhones, and Android internal storage recovery from failed devices. iPhone recovery typically 800-1,500 NZD depending on damage type.

Where do I drop off my drive in Auckland?

Our workshop at 3 Morningside Drive, Morningside, Auckland. Weekdays 9am-5pm. Or send by courier (bubble-wrapped in a padded box). RAID/NAS units — we can collect on-site anywhere in Auckland metro (extra 180 NZD travel fee).

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to common questions about our Auckland cabling services, pricing and process. Can't find what you're after? Call us on 0800 222 546.

How much does network cabling cost?

Pricing depends on the number of data points, cable type (Cat6 / Cat6a / fibre) and building complexity. We provide free site surveys and upfront fixed-price quotes — no hidden costs. Most extra Cat6 outlets start from $120 +GST. Call 0800 222 546 to book yours.

Do you charge for site surveys and quotes?

No — site surveys and quotes are free. Book online or call 0800 222 546 and one of our team will come to you, assess the job, and give you a clear fixed price before any work begins.

How long does a typical install take?

A standard residential or small-office install is usually completed in a single day — often same-day. Larger commercial or enterprise projects are planned with a clear timeline given before work begins, so you always know what to expect.

Are your technicians certified and licensed?

Yes. All installs are completed to TIA/EIA and AS/NZS 3080 standards, and any associated electrical work is carried out by licensed electricians. We are fully insured with $5M public liability cover.

What areas of Auckland do you service?

We service all of Auckland — Central, North Shore, West, East and South Auckland — plus the North including Orewa, Silverdale, Warkworth, Snells Beach and Mangawhai.

Do you provide a warranty on your work?

Yes. Every cabling install is tested, documented and backed by our 3-year workmanship warranty. If anything isn't right after your install, we'll come back and fix it.

Cat6 vs Cat6a — which cable should I choose?

For most homes and small offices, Cat6 is more than enough — it handles gigabit speeds easily and is more affordable. Cat6a suits businesses running heavy data, future-proofing for 10-gigabit networks, or longer cable runs. We'll recommend the right cable during your free site survey.

How much does CCTV installation cost in Auckland?

CCTV pricing depends on the number of cameras, indoor vs outdoor placement, recording method (NVR vs cloud) and cabling required. Most residential installs sit in the $1,500–$3,500 range, with commercial systems quoted on-site. Book a free survey on 0800 222 546.

Can you install fibre optic cabling for my business?

Yes — we install indoor and outdoor fibre including OS2 single-mode and OM3/OM4 multi-mode for backbone runs, server rooms and inter-building links across Auckland. All terminations are tested and certified to AS/NZS standards.

Do you provide after-hours or emergency callouts?

Yes. Real people answer Mon–Sun, and we offer emergency callouts for downed networks, broken cabling, camera failures and business-critical outages. Call 0800 222 546 anytime.

Can you add data points to an existing home or office?

Absolutely — adding data points to existing buildings is one of our most common jobs. We minimise wall damage, label every cable and tidy patch panels so future changes are easy. Most retrofits are completed in a single visit.
