Wi-Fi and wireless network case studies in Auckland
Solid walls, split levels and big floors: where mesh fails and wired backhaul wins.
Most of the Wi-Fi jobs we get called to are not Wi-Fi problems. They are backhaul problems. Someone has bought a mesh kit, the nodes cannot hold a decent link to each other through solid walls or across a split level, and every hop loses more signal than it carries. Adding another node makes it worse.
These case studies show how we approach it: survey first, find out what the building is doing to the signal, then run cable where it carries the load and put wireless where the people are. Chambers with solid walls, two-storey family homes, a split-level with a mesh kit that never worked, and a converted garage that now gets close to the full fibre speed.
Every study lists the constraint we found, the decision we made on site and what the customer got at handover. If your building has thick walls, a level change or a long back section, one of these will look familiar.
